If you choose not to hire an attorney, you may want to get proof that you consulted with one such as a business card or consultation letter. This will help you prove to a Court that you have obtained legal advice. The attorney can provide you with advice as to the bankruptcy process such as correct chapter filing, educational classes, and exempt property. After your initial bankruptcy filing, the Court will hold a 341 meeting. An attorney can help you to understand the purpose of the meeting and what information will need to be shared.
He or she should also speak and help you understand the 341 meeting. We would suggest, printing out a blank copy of the bankruptcy forms and take them with you. If the attorney has time and is one of the good ones they should helping you understand the process. He or she should explain each page, please make sure you take notes, maybe on your copies. This way once you complete them. If you choice to move forward with a document prepare, the process will be much easier for all. If you choose to have an attorney review the forms once they are done, this may save you time and money once a Judge and or Trustee reviews them.
